In the end, my VP made a comment that it might be funny to show them as scientists working in a lab and reveal that in between vacations they are actually really smart. And I took that idea and ran with it and this is where I ended up. I really wanted them to be in an old southern Victorian home wearing ridiculous outfits, destroying accents and using words that had never left their lips. It was absolute hilarity on set and I am very happy with how these spots turned out. We teamed up with Pudding Boy Entertainment to accomplish this massive shoot in a very short time, and as always, it was insanely smooth because of Grayson Ross. They are a brilliant team and they go above and beyond to deliver so much more than you could have imagined. For this spot, I acted as the Supervising Producer of Music Track "Wayfaring Stranger" produced by Brendan Benson and performed by one of my favorite people in this world, Leigh Nash. I knew I wanted to use the song Wayfaring Stranger, but it had to be a re-record. And not just to re-record it but to do it in a way that hasn't been done before. It needed to feel hauntingly beautiful ... as if you're moving thru a dream sequence. Brendan, Leigh and I spent days and nights in the studio and were able to really collaborate and come up with something we all loved and worked incredibly well with 2C's insanely beautiful piece. I am SO PROUD of this spot! I immediately thought of this song. Every time I heard my friend Katie Herzig perform this song, I always thought of my relationship with my mother when I was a teen. To the outside I am sure I appeared to be just your average 'acting out for attention' troubled teen who needed a reality check...but had anyone taken a deeper look inside, they would have found something much different. This song says 'when an ocean lies between us and there's no sign we'll ever cross, you should know now that I feel lost'. I wanted people to feel the pain and need on both sides. From the teen and the parents. To this day this is still my favorite and most connected spot I've ever worked on. I was given the task of introducing our 8 Brand Filter words to the Upfront Audience for the first time, while also explaining how important country music is to our nation. This little gem of a clip with Obama happened right as I started working on the project so of course it was perfect. Not only was he recognizable to a New York audience, but also his message was exactly what we needed during this time period in 2010. We used the artists to represent the Filter Words for our brand, as the music was our brand at this time. I chose each song, scripted the piece from TONS of transcriptions and then supervised the edit through delivery. For this spot, I acted as the Supervising Producer of Music Track "Wayfaring Stranger" produced by Brendan Benson and performed by one of my favorite people in this world, Leigh Nash. I knew I wanted to use the song Wayfaring Stranger, but it had to be a re-record. And not just to re-record it but to do it in a way that hasn't been done before. It needed to feel hauntingly beautiful ... as if you're moving thru a dream sequence. Brendan, Leigh and I spent days and nights in the studio and were able to really collaborate and come up with something we all loved and worked incredibly well with 2C's insanely beautiful piece. Working with 2C Media is always an incredible experience. They always make me look good! They KILLED IT! And this time proved to be absolutely amazing. For this particular spot I really wanted to use a Monologue to make it feel incredibly personal and to make the characters feel real and relatable as opposed to the standard dramatic soap script. We needed to find a way to reconnect with the audience since Season 4 lost viewers due to the over-the-top story lines and dramatics - to find a way back to our roots. This turned out to be a special script for me personally as we had a unique situation where we had to send our scripts to the Executive Producers of the show as well as Lions Gate for approval. This script was a fusion of two scripts - one i wrote and one Sam Storey wrote. When trying to decide what to write, I realized that my personal experience with love and loss and finding myself was completely relatable not only to the characters but also to pretty much all people, so I decided to use a very personal poem I wrote in a dark time in my life. And it worked. The words from my poem have since been quoted in articles in Rolling Stone, US Weekly, Entertainment Weekly etc as well as by Nashville fans. It's incredibly rewarding to feel that your words connect to others. And I am grateful to have been able to collaborate with 2C on this project. Great work is never created by one person. Their work here is absolutely beautiful. Brian Eloe is a brilliant director and the CG work of Luis Martinez - UNREAL. He creates beauty in a way that is completely indescribable. From the sound design to the intricate graphics (also directed by Brian Eloe) - it's truly beautiful. This is a perfect example of true team work. This was a really fun project because I love designing/selecting wardrobe, props etc. and on this particular shoot - I had an idea of what I wanted the wardrobe to look like, so I worked with my friend, Amanda Valentine who was featured on Project Runway. She created the costume, I made the hat ... and there you have it! I also stayed up for about 4 hours sorting Tic Tacs in my hotel room to create the fake red/white/blue blends because I didn't have enough, and I'm pretty sure the hotel cleaning service wondered what in the world went down in that room with 150 empty Tic Tic boxes.
