I spent 15 years sitting behind a desk, in my perfectly adjusted ergonomic chair, staring out of my high rise window, watching the sun silently move from one side of my glass cage to the other, wishing I was somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED my job and am insanely passionate about writing, directing and creating. The work wasn't the issue. My problem was in doing those things I love from within 4 walls, behind a desk, while breathing recycled air, from 9am to 6pm, 5 to 6 days a week, for 15 years. It became forced creativity. The office environment does something unintentionally amazing. It creates dreamers. Sounds great right? I mean who doesn't want to dream? Well, I for one do not want to dream. Dreams frustrate me. They make me feel like I'm not good enough to attain them. Because for most of us, we wish our life was different yet do nothing about it. We create the dream and allow it to play out like a film over and over in our minds, yet we never act on it ... because well, it's just a dream.
So one day I said it out loud. I don't want to just see the sun, I want to feel the sun. I don't want to upload my work to the cloud, I want to work from the clouds. So ... here I am. It took me 4 years to say out loud "I’m going freelance so I can travel, see the world and have a choice of working from my cozy little Nashville home or from a beach in Costa Rica” and 8 months to make it happen. I believe that you can work from anywhere in the world – anywhere you shine the brightest – because you work the hardest when you're the happiest. And damn it, I'm happy! So let's work.
